Armored Car robbery in Bethesda

Shortly after noon, two people held up an armored car outside this Wachovia bank on the 7900 block of Wisconsin Ave (MD-355) in Bethesda, MD. The suspects reportedly fled in a black jeep, going northbound on MD-355. There have been other armored car robberies in the DC area in the past week that are possibly related.

The top photo was taken this afternoon and shows the armored car involved in the incident. Police tape had surrounded this vehicle but it was removed prior to the picture.

Malicious Mischief

I was walking down St. Elmo Ave near Old Georgetown Rd and saw that one of the windows at Wool & Knots (one of the many rug stores we have) was cracked from top to bottom. There was also a strip of tape covering the crack. I decided to take a closer look to try and identify the cause. Right in the middle of the crack I found this:

A BB, still lodged in the window. It is good to know that Bethesda still has hooligan kids running around shooting BB guns. Windows this size are expensive, I hope they catch the kids and make them pay for the repair.

Another bank robbery in Bethesda, MD

Yesterday I heard a bunch of sirens and a bit later saw the channel 7 news helicopter, but I couldn't figure out why. This morning I found the explanation.

Around 4pm on Friday the Bank of America at 7316 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD was robbed by someone with pepper spray. This robbery has a happy ending though, customers and bank employees chased the robber down the street and apprehended him. More info from WJLA.

This is the third (and hopefully last) bank robbery I have heard of in Bethesda in the past couple of months.

Bethesda Circulator bench back stolen

Looks a little bare doesn't it? There used to be a bench here near the corner of Woodmont Ave and Elm St, but sometime last Friday night or Saturday morning the back of it was stolen. The rest of the bench has since been removed. (maybe Bethesda Urban Partnership?)

The hand-carved wooden seat back read "Good that ice, or I'd have missed Feathered down clouds, orange and pink Curved across the windshield." and is valued at over $2,000.

[update 3/3: The bench wasn't really stolen, it had been damaged by vandals and it was moved by construction workers. It has been recovered. More info at the gazette.]
